Any tile ratio · 10% typical waste

Straight

Clean grids. Crisp grout lines. The default for a reason.

When to use

The most forgiving layout — tiles align in straight rows and columns, so cut tiles only appear at the perimeter. Works with any tile size or aspect ratio, and reads as quiet and modern. Best when the tile itself is the visual feature (large-format porcelain, marble, terrazzo).

Recommended tile sizes

Anything from 4"×4" mosaics to 24"×48" large format. Square tiles read most still; rectangles read more linear when oriented along the longest wall.

Typical waste

Budget around 10% extra tile when ordering. The planner uses this as the default when you compute boxes-needed — override per project if your installer is more or less efficient.
