Herringbone

Interlocking V's. The pattern that asks to be looked at.

When to use

Two rectangular tiles meet at right angles to form repeating V's, creating visual movement and texture. Classic for entryways, bathrooms, and accent walls. Adds perceived width when laid perpendicular to the longest wall; adds depth when laid parallel to it.

Recommended tile sizes

Strict 2:1 to 5:1 rectangles only — 6"×12" subway, 4"×12" plank, 3"×12" thin plank, 2"×10" mosaic. Smaller tiles produce a busier visual; longer tiles look more architectural.

Typical waste

Budget around 20% extra tile when ordering. The planner uses this as the default when you compute boxes-needed — override per project if your installer is more or less efficient.
